Hydrogen for Bremen’s industrial transformation

The hyBit project is a major large-scale hydrogen research project coordinated by the University of Bremen. It aims to generate fundamental knowledge for the development of a hydrogen economy in northern Germany, with a particular focus on the transformation of large-scale industrial infrastructures, so-called hydrogen hubs, in Bremen and the northern German region. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the project with almost 30 million euros. A total of 19 partners from science and industry are involved. HyBit serves as an initial impetus for the development of a northern German hydrogen economy and supports the transformation to a sustainable and climate-neutral Europe. Thanks to the combination of port logistics, existing wind farms and proximity to European energy infrastructures, northern Germany offers ideal conditions for a large-scale hydrogen economy.
